Zayn Malik axes Dubai gig due to ongoing anxiety

Zayn Malik has cancelled his October 7 concert in Dubai, due to an ongoing battle with anxiety. Full refunds for tickets bought will be made through original point of sale.
“I have been working over the last three months to overcome my extreme anxiety around major live solo performances,” said Malik in a press release, sent by event organisers 117Live on Tuesday morning.
“I feel I am making progress but I have today acknowledged that I do not feel sufficiently confident to move forward with the planned show in Dubai in October.”
The news comes hot on the heels of another Dubai cancellation.
Selena Gomez axed her November 18 at the same concert venue, Autism Rocks Arena, last week. She cited anxiety, panic attacks and depression, referring to them as ‘side effects’ of the chronic disease lupus.

Malik’s Dubai date was his only solo concert scheduled since he left boy band One Direction in 2015. He released his debut album, Mind of Mine, earlier this year, but did not go on a promotional tour.
Malik cancelled a festival performance in London in June due to the ‘worst anxiety of my career’.
Malik spent five years in One Direction and went on four global headlining tours with the band, leaving in the midst of their On the Road Again tour last year. He subsequently missed their show in Dubai.
117 Live assured fans that full refunds for Malik’s show can be availed.
“Whilst disappointed not to be hosting the planned Oct 7 Dubai concert, we appreciate Zayn’s honest apologies and wish him all the best for the future,” said CEO Thomas Ovesen.
“We will be looking forward to sharing more of Zayn’s plans with his Middle East fans when we have such information and will now get the ticket refund process started. See you all at our other events at the Autism Rocks Arena.”
