The singer - who shot to fame after winning the Critics Choice Award at the Brit Awards in 2010 - was worried that her looks could limit their success and tried to hide her face during photo shoots.
She told ES Magazine: "At one point, I was getting all this musical success, but I was not getting all the things that went with it, as magazine covers.
"I was convinced long ago it was not aesthetically pleasing enough. Would have to face angle to hide the side of the nose or chin.
"Then I stopped caring I let him go out there Put a different energy - ... Then [covers] all started to happen."
